If Testing Is Negative
What If the Testing Does Not Show Sleep Apnea?
Snoring can occur without obstructive sleep apnea. This is sometimes called primary snoring. Testing that does not show sleep apnea does not mean your snoring is imagined — it means that, on that study, the breathing interruptions characteristic of OSA were not identified.
Treatment considerations for primary snoring and diagnosed OSA may differ. This page does not provide individualized treatment recommendations. To explore the difference, see our snoring vs sleep apnea guide and whether snoring means sleep apnea.
